BRAKES.

Attached is a print of N. scheme 3188., (original to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}) shewing the proposed 4 shoe brake adapted to the front brakes on Phantom 2.

The operation leverages are the same as on the existing P. 2. as is shewn on N. sch. 3189., a print of which is also enclosed herewith, (original to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}) The resulting loads and stresses are indicated on the drawing.

The angle of the cams and levers are chosen so as to cause the two halves of the brake to remain practically equal, both when new and when fully worn. The leverage rises slightly as the brake wears, as is the case now.

The brake fits exactly on to the existing front axle and pivots, and the existing drums are used.
