HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} BENTLEY REAR AXLE - WHEEL DRIVERS. Somewhere about 20.10.36. we asked you to put in hand the Design Dept's suggested scheme for preventing knocks in wheel drivers. Again on 1.1.37. we asked you to urge these parts. We have still not received the results of all the tests. The idea of doing a rig test was to enable us to get an answer quickly because of trouble on customers' cars. We do not see how we are going to justify to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} the fact that after five months we still cannot give him an answer. We think the same thing again is going to happen about the fatigue tests on the P.III stiffer axle shafts. The original apparatus does not work. Walter Bell expects to have drawings of a really rigid affair about Thursday. We, therefore, ask you to do all you can to get an answer to this experiment. We have led both Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to believe that they would have the results a week ago. The whole object of rig tests breaks down if we get results quicker by running cars in France. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
