Hall's Car. The following outstanding work remains to be done on this car :- (1) The helical geared oil pump to be replaced by a straight toothed oil pump. (2) The carburetter floats should be arranged so that they do not drop so far and jamb the needle. (3) The main needle which was used in the carburetters coming back from the track should be adjusted so that (a) it gives good slow running, and (b) the weakness between 1500 and 2500 revs. is eliminated. Tests have proved this can be carried out on 1-B-IV. (4) The correct strength of throttle spring which is not unduly stressed should be fitted. (5) The test bed ignition timing is apparently correct and should be reverted to. (6) The pull off springs on the front axle seem very weak. It will be remembered that one front brake rubbing caused trouble in the last race. We should ensure that we get the maximum possible tension on these springs. If the springs in the axle are not strong enough, consult Grylls as to how to get more load. (7) The axle ratio should be changed to 11/43, see separate memo. to Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} Must be a good bedding. (8) You should personally inspect the oil seals on the axle shafts and make sure that no oil has got through to the hubs. (9) The aluminium wings should be sent back to Messrs. Offord. A letter should be written pointing out that one has been damaged and will be rectified at the Railway company's expense, but that we should like both wings to have the holding on studs altered to 3/8", B.A. thread.
