- 2 - BY/B.20/G.2.2.39. (2). Inner Intermediate Bearing E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} The inner weight is too far away from this bearing, (and not in correct line), to balance Crank 4 effectively. Crank 5 is not balanced. (3). Outer Intermediate Bearing F.{Mr Friese} The outer weight is too far away from this bearing to balance Crank 6 effectively. Crank 5 is not balanced. [Diagram showing crankshaft layout labeled A-G and 1-6, and a force diagram for weights labeled 'Inner wgt.', 'Outer wgt.', '1&6', '2&5', '3&4', and an angle of '15°'] Conclusions. The 'Packard' Scheme should not be proceeded with. Scheme (b) (of the memo referred to above) should be used as regards distribution of weights. These weights, from the bearing standpoint, should be as large as possible. BY/B. J.S. Bowes | ||
