Valve Tappet Spanner - X.1119. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}8/W11314. With reference to your memo Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Mcr4/L 25214, we have not found this very satisfactory. It is rather awkward to handle as it does not remain in position and there is a tendency to burn one's hands while handling same should the engine be in a hot condition, which should be the case when tappets are adjusted. Again, one is not able to "feel" the slack in the tappet while the spanner is in position. We have, so far, found a single spanner with a good long handle so that same clears the exhaust pipe, much more satisfactory. We do not think, therefore, we should go any further with the above type of spanner. EP.{G.
