-2- For rotational work a flywheel unit is mounted on the base, together with the recording unit (Figure 4). The stylus is operated by a connecting rod from the flywheel mechanism. Provision is made for alignment and adjusting the position of the flywheel unit relative to the shaft under investigation, a belt drive being employed. The whole outfit is fitted into a portable wood case, together with a six-volt accumulator for the time marking mechanism. The case also contains an optical system and a ground glass screen, which form a viewer and photographic enlarger for the records, the illumination being provided by a 6-volt lamp run from the accumulator. Interchangeable stylus arms are included to give mechanical magnifications of 1 to 1 or 5 to 1 for vertical and horizontal vibrations and for portable use, and 2 to 1 or 6 to 1 for rotational work. The optical magnification with the viewer is x 10. The recording unit takes films 10 feet long, 20 mm wide, which are easily inserted or removed. The film speed is adjustable from 10 mm per second down to 1/6th of this value. Catalogue No. 32551. Photographs Nos. 6444, 6445 6448 6449, 6450 | ||
