Low output of 'Very good' quality gearbox side shafts and the estimated cost increase to achieve 100% quality.

With reference to the attached memo re above taking last months output only 33% of the side shafts were classified as Very good so that under present conditions our output would have to be reduced 66% if all side shafts are to be " Very good ones " of to continue on our present conditions. As regards the question of time and money necessary to have 100% of Very good side shafts this would approximately mean three times as much money being spent on testing gear boxes than there is at present. Of course only very approximate figures can be given as gear box testing ir considered along with the ordinary routine of testing, but below is my rough estimate of this as far as test department is considered:- Contd.
