Re: Wheels.

2.B.5.
It is proposed on the second Bentley III chassis 2.B.5. to fit the latest wire wheels, permitting of the use of wide brake drums.

The wheel is shown on PD.122, and the wheels should be 16 x 4½" rims and 6½" section tyres.

1.B.50.
For the first Bentley 50 chassis 1.B.50 it is proposed to fit the original suspension on the front, with narrow brake drums, and the fully floating rear axle.

It is proposed to use on this car the Wraith wheels and tyres viz. 17" rims 4" section and 6½" tyres, until such time as the semi-floating rear axle is available when wide brake drums will be fitted to both the front and rear. Then we shall obtain suitable steel wheels for this car. A design for wide brake drums in conjunction with steel wheels for B.50 has to be produced, and it is not recommended that any steel wheels should be ordered until this scheme is available. We understand that a set of wheels can be obtained at reasonably short notice. From the experiences of 1.B.50 with the Wraith wheels, with either 6½" or 7" section tyres, and also with the 16" wheels of Bentley III, with 6½" tyres, it will be possible to determine which is the best wheel and tyre size for B.50 prior to ordering the final all steel wheels.

The above is in confirmation of what was agreed to by Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} prior to the Easter recess.
