E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}5/MN.26.2.36. Wind Tone Horns - 25 H.P. Last September we produced a scheme for fitting the Lucas wind tone horn to the 25 H.P., mounting the horns on the lamp standard. Considerable time has elapsed due to the testing of this scheme and the problems we have run into concerning the type of elastic mounting which Messrs. Lucas have demanded. We have now tried the scheme as shown on LeC 4684, but with a thick and rigid three-finger spider bracket in the place of the spring one shown, and find that this mounting is quite satisfactory. On attempting to fit this to 22 G5 the 25 H.P. car with the Thrupp & Maberly standardised body, it was found necessary to raise the horn bracket on the lamp standard approximately 1 inch. This was because the Thrupp & Maberly wings are very full in the valance causing the aluminium casting surrounding the lamp standard to come higher up, and so to foul the horn bracket. The raising of the horn bracket has raised the head lamps. This is an undesirable feature, and one we shall all wish to avoid. We are sending you herewith two prints of LeC 4684 so that you can ask your Coachbuilders whether they can with reason say that there is any need for the wing to be made any more full in the valance than shown on this drawing, that is to say that the casting surrounding the lamp staddard will come no higher than is drawn. We can then fit the horns according to our scheme and there will be no necessity to raise the head lamps. Naturally Messrs. Thrupp & Maberly will say 'No' to this, but we were wondering if other leading Coach-builders can make the scheme work as drawn, we should then be prepared to ask Messrs. Thrupp & Maberly to modify their wings. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att: LeC 4684 (2 prints). | ||
