X.5310 We received your wire today as follows :- "FIRST TEST WITH TORSIONALLY FREE FIRST AND SECOND GEARS SUCCESSFUL WE ARE EXPECTING YOU INSTRUCT EXPERIMENTS CONTAINED IN RL/M13.2.25" HIVES. Presuming the reverse to be cured, and referring to 1st. and 2nd. speed only, the experiments asked for by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in the memo. referred to are :- (1) Keys narrowed at centre. (2) Increased dia. of pinion - 1st. speed. (3) Splines of 30° angle. (4) Use 14½° teeth. (1) Has been instructed and after about 8 or 9 successful tests at varying loads is now reported to have failed. (2) This was stopped in view of the success with (1), but has since been instructed in combination with the torsionally free pinion. (3) These have been instructed some weeks on LeC.2005. (4) This, like (2) was stopped in view of the success of (1), but we would hereby ask BY.{R.W.
