X1729a S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Tests in France of Cadillac and 21-G-4 by London Coachbuilders. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}15/KW18.1.35. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW16.1.35. Many thanks for the information given over the telephone this afternoon, from which I understand that 21-G-4 is coming back with one of your drivers to London and therefore I need make no arrangement to meet it. With regard to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s suggestion that I should accompany the Coachbuilders' representatives to Boulogne on Wednesday, unfortunately I cannot do this, but my feeling was that Hancock - who is so familiar with all the data - would be much more useful in showing the Coachbuilders the weak points about the bodywork. We want him of course, not to let the Coachbuilders argue that if our chassis and springing were like the Cadillac their bodies would be as good as that on the Cadillac, but to take note of the conditions under which the bodywork, as they know best how to build it to-day, behaves on our chassis under conditions such as those Hancock can show them. After all, that is what really matters to both from their point of view and from ours, and they must learn what they can from the results. A suggestion was made that it might be a good thing to send Archer over on Wednesday, as he is taking a very active part in the work at the Coachbuilders' factories in London now. Do you think that would be a useful move, or is it best to let Hancock convey to the Coachbuilders, and discuss with them, all the points at issue ? I would like, if possible, to have an early reply to this, so that if you decide that Archer need not go and we decided to send someone else instead, such as Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}, I could then give him ample notice of his journey. We should like as soon as convenient, when 21-G-4 is back, to let Hoopers have an opportunity of thoroughly examining this body and everything in connection with it, from its mounting on the frame and its subsequent life and behaviour. vo Cx.{Major Len W.
