CLUTCHES.

With reference to the attached report, it is positive that the introduction of the synchromesh box is going to give the clutch a much stiffer time.

It is interesting to note that the Americans who have been using the easy change gear boxes for a long time have [strikethrough]entirely[/strikethrough] nearly all changed from single plate to two plate or multi plate clutches.

The best compromise we have for the present clutch is to increase the leverage to reduce the pedal pressure and to give more movement on the clutch pedal so as to get the same separation clearance. This can be done by making the normal position of the clutch pedal the same as the brake pedal so that any wear of the clutch pedal comes above the brake pedal. The present standard is, of course, to have the clutch pedal much below the brake pedal.
