X 1336 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/KW. 9th July, 1935. The Earl of Rothes, The India Tyre & Rubber Co.Ltd., Mileage Dept. (Area 'B'), 80, Clapham Road, London, S.W.9. Dear Rothes, I am sorry I have been such a long time answering your letter. So far we have not really made much progress with the Aero Cushion tyres and wheels. I am going to carry out some more tests on them and should probably like to discuss results with you when they are completed. 5.5 x 18 I am still personally of the opinion that the new India tyre is noisier than the old one, and should like to know whether your Experimental Dept. agree with me. I suggest the next move you make with this particular model tyre is to improve its silence. The all steel Park Ward body will be of great interest, and we expect to have it at the Works shortly. The most interesting body I have tried for a long time was a Van Vooren Silent Block Saloon which had done 20,000 kms. over typical French pave roads round Paris and Belgium. It had really stood up astonishingly well and was quite quiet. We are having one fitted to one of our experimental chassis, and I expect you would like to try it. Unfortunately, however, as you will appreciate, whilst we comment on coachwork it is dealt with almost entirely from our London office from the point of view of production orders, because of the multiplicity of Coachbuilders concerned in the manufacture of Bentley bodies. However, I believe they usually pass on our recommendations. | ||
