Special Bye-pass Oil Filter We disconnected the top end of the outlet pipe from the filter from the union on the distributor drive casing to observe the flow. With the engine run to give 20 lbs/sq" pressure, there was a slow steady flow from the pipe, but a very much greater quantity of oil was forced out of the gear case through the union. We have therefore carried out our previous suggestion of leading the outlet pipe from the filter into the side of the oil filler spout. This has three advantages. 1) There is a slight fall in the pipe instead of a head which will tend to drain the top of the filter and, we hope, prevent oil leaks from the lid.{A. J. Lidsey} 2) It is a shorter simpler pipe than the other. 3) The flow can be observed by removing the engine oil filler cap and shining a light down the spout. So far the filter does not appear to have cleaned the oil at all. We will make further observations with the new arrangement in operation. A sketch showing the position of the union on the filler spout is enclosed. ------------------ Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} | ||
