Mr Barrington DATE. 3.7.12 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}31/T3712. Re Mr Royces sheet of June 26th, Re Broken Bronze sphere off Fergusons chas sis 1825. With reference to the above it is evident [Handwritten signature: FW Royce] considers the damage was caused by the front end, ie the open end of the bronze sphere catching the shaft leading to it from the Gear box. Before this would happen the propellor shaft would catch where it passes through the inside spehere. I understand this was the substance of Mr Bailey's report as to the cause, and about which I was not entirely in agreement. A good distruction test was made during the test of the torque tube reported June 8th in my sheet EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}39/T3612. Another good demonstration was the accident which lately happened with the Sluggard and which came in for repairs.
