Re. Electric Petrol Gauges

Dear Sirs,

With reference to Mr.Manwaring's visit last Tuesday, we presume you are preparing in all, 4 petrol gauges for us.

The most urgent one is that for our 18 gallon tank, which we dispatched to you last week. Mr.Manwaring thought it would take about 3 days to prepare this gauge. The "earth return" type gauge would be preferable, but if it is impossible to fit this without altering the position of the gauge, we will be quite content with the 3 line type. In any case we should like a layout of alternative schemes using the "earth return" type gauge for the 18 gallon tank.

With regards the 20 gallon tank. For this we require two "earth return" type gauges to scheme II on your drawing EXY.6534., and one of the 3 line type to scheme I. We understand the 3 line type to scheme I will fit in our standard tank without any alteration. We intend to use one of each type gauge in the tank we have sent at the same time. This means that the float on scheme II must swing clear of that of scheme I. Will you pleas send us drawings of the flange drilling etc for both type gauges.

On Oct. 21st., we dispatched to you one of our Elliot Ammeters as a sample of our standard finish on instruments. We think this will be no longer of use to you and should be obliged if you would return it. We understand from you that this instrument arrived at London slightly damaged.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED.
