-3- Consequently it would be liable to affect the gear in the lapping and checking operations. Inspection of the gear revealed Model supplied by RR was inaccurate to the amount stated. Gleason's also pointed out that the cutting was much too rough, and I must admit that it was not up to our usual standard. However, it was pointed out that a slight increase in diameter for pinion cutter would improve the bedding on the over-run side of pinion tooth, and slight alteration to tooth form on driving side would be beneficial. I saw a pair of gears which had modifications referred to incorporated on the rig this morning, and they appeared entirely satisfactory for bedding. It was therefore arranged for that a pair of gears to be dispatched to Derby as models, and the necessary corrections in the calculation of gear teeth to be drawn up and mailed to Derby. The improvement in the bedding by the correction referred to should overcome complaints on the production of rear axle bevels of this ratio. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} att. 1re. | ||
