Continental Phantom III.

Herewith is a specification of the engine unit :-

Camshaft.

The exhaust cam to lead its respective inlet by 113½°.
Inlet cam form Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}98.
Exhaust " " Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}42.
Otherwise layout details of camshaft similar to standard shaft E.88127.

Timing of this shaft with .020" clearance -

I.O. 3° BTDC. E.O. 44° BBDC.
I.C. 50° PBDC. E.C. 6° BTDC.

Cylinder Heads.

4 port heads to E.87735, to include modification Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}160, whereby the compression ratio is raised to 6.5 : 1, and includes deturbulating of the heads.

Valves & Fittings.

Automatic tappet action to be stopped by removal of the plunger return springs.
Plunger to be replaced by solid pieces in S/N.
Oil feed holes in the plunger casings to be blanked.
The push rods, also the cylinder head retaining studs, will have to be .150" shorter to suit the modified heads.
Exhaust valves to E.88614 but in S/SLU (stellited) and with a final clearance in the guides of .0015" to .002".
Inlet valves to E.88615 but with a similar clearance of .0015" to .002".
