R1/G24618. 24th June 1918, 1320 (5 lines). Count Carlos de Salamanca, Ventura Rodriguez, 3. MADRID Dear M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} de Salamanca, RE MODERN "BUICK'S" CLUTCH. Many thanks for your description of above, which is very interesting, this kind of information is the most useful we can have. The construction of the clutch is quite well know to us, and we have repeatedly built them for experimental cars and for aero engines. They would, of course, heat considerably if slipped much under load, and for this reason the surfaces of the plates are usually fitted with incombustible material such as asbestos. One advantage of a plate clutch is that it can be made without the need of taking extreme care that engine driven part shall run true, and expansion does not materially alter the thickness of the plates because they are thin. This type of clutch has been used by us for most of our recent work, and has been tried many times on cars. It will probably be embodied in an "after-the-War" model. At the same time, we have definitely found that this type Contd. | ||
