Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Whr.{Mr Wheeler} Y8410 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CWB10/GM/12-5-27. 40/50 H.P. SPRINGING. I have received your By2/H10.5.27 and By4/H11.5.27 also Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/LG10.5.27 and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG10.5.27. on the above question. The matter now appears to be fairly clear as follows:- We shall have three standards of springing. (a). The Home standard. (b). The Continental standard, which includes all European countries with the exception of Russia. (c). The Colonial standard, which includes Australia, South Africa and Russia. KK As regards which particular classification certain other countries shall be included under, e.g. S. America, Sweden, Norway etc., we are preparing a questionnaire to which the Consular Officers in these countries will be requested to give the answer, so that we may judge from these under which class these foreign countries may best be placed. It is hoped in a reasonable time to obtain these answers and therefore to settle this question for the greater part of the remaining countries of the world. As regards the type of springing for each of these classifications we are now agreed regarding (a) and (b). As regards (c) the Colonial standard, I think it would be best to await Pt's report on his tests of the two types of spring which you are preparing for him. As regards the car on which these would be tested, probably Pt's own car, I believe 47-AU, which is a Silver Ghost front wheel brake series, will be quite suitable and if this should have been sold on his return the springs will be equally suitable for almost any open New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I, which is the type most available in Australia apparently, and doubtless he will make arrangements to have the test made on some other open car there. Will you please arrange accordingly. CWB. | ||
