To HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " Mor. " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL R2/G11/8/21. 2 X3558 RE STARTER FOR CHASSIS 60508. A 30 HP 1906/7 We have received the drawings of the above and have examined them. My impression is that assuming that the C.A.V. apparatus is correct technically and powerful enough to turn the engine there is a grave doubt that the motor suspension will be found wanting in rigidity. Personally, I should not attempt this application unless one could see a way of putting either the motor or an outboard bearing direct on the engine crankchamber, so that the gearing is maintained in its correct depth of engagement, and also does not become cross wound through the relative movement of the engine and motor. If you have a similar chassis at the Works Mr.Chandler ought to find out whether a satisfactory arrangement can be provided. You will see that owing to the pressure of work which falls upon me, it rests between Mr. Chandler and yourself to give an opinion of what you recommend, and whether you think the equipment will be satisfactory, so that I can send it on to Mr. Ashcroft as the views and recommendation of our experts in the repair department. Personally, as far as I can understand from the simple and crude drawings and information at hand, I should say that it requires a good deal of further work, to provide a much better job before we can recommend the work to be put in hand. Furthermore, this work and responsibility should be done and carried out by the people who hope to get the business and profit from the transaction. We ought to be pleased to do this for Mr. Ashcroft (Contd.) | ||
