Proposed modification to the central oiling scheme for the 12-EX car.

X.3806 In examining the first specimen it appeared to be proving my fears that a scheme so easy to operate would soon shew itself as unnecessarily smothering the chassis and [strikethrough]illegible[/strikethrough] engine with oil spray. Also suitable distribution and reliability to reach every point seems almost impossible. This and other reasons have decided us to make a more practical attempt at centralising the oiling, and DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} is sending the modifications it is proposed to make to 12-EX. This scheme consists of the operator being armed with an Enots oil pump, then connections are brought together conveniently in the [strikethrough]chassis[/strikethrough] about 3 locations. It is an easy matter for these to be lubricated say once a month, in addition to which there are a few isolated places which could not in any case be oiled while the engine is running, and these are rendered so oil-retaining that they only require attention once every 3 or 6 months. We trust within a few days of receiving DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}'s final instructions that 12-EX car will be completed in respect to the oiling system. It will however have to wait for the important item of the slot induction pipe, and the general improvements embodied with this modification. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
