-/6142. K/KC. From Ha/Wst. c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ha/Wst.2/MA.23.8.35. SPARKING ON BENTLEY DYNAMOS. Referring to your K/KC/DPB.19.8.35., the trouble experienced on the dynamo you refer to is undoubtedly due to :- (a) Excessive brush sparking at high speeds. (b) Oil leaking from the bearings on to the commutator. This dynamo is one of the low cutting in point machines which we did not recommend for use on Bentleys because of the high degree of commutator sparking at high speeds. There is no cure for this trouble but to go back to the standard arrangement or better still to fit the new fan ventilated machines which will be introduced on the new 40/50 chassis. The commutator condition on this dynamo has also be considerably aggravated by the presence of oil. We understand (By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will cofirm this) that the D.O. have a scheme in hand designed to prevent this oil leakage, otherwise at present there is no cure but to avoid too liberal lubrication at this point.
