RE "GOSHAWK I" - HAND AND FOOT EQUALISING BRAKE GEAR.

Kindly note the following alterations which Mr. Royce requires should be made to N. scheme 715 :-

(1) Plain pins should be used for all brake rod forks except those carrying the cables. Mr. Royce asks if we have not got some standard forks for plain pins. If hinge forks of all description should have the bosses larger than the shoulders in the side view, as in sketch -

(2) The cable forks should be made rather longer in the jaw. If these cable forks are similar to those designed for "Goshawk II" then these latter should also be altered.

(3) Use flat keys for all levers. Keyways should be slot drilled but the keys should be free enough for assembly without fitting. Since the brake levers are loaded always in the same direction, the keys can be made to drop into their slots. The counter-shaft lever on the back axle of "Goshawk II" should be similarly treated.

(4) The biting-in bolts for the brake levers should be cut in more deeply into the tube by about another .050". The bosses for the biting-in bolts should be cut away less in the middle so as not to be so wingy, and the bosses should not extend beyond the edge of the spring washer, although they may be larger in diameter than the diameter of the spring washer. The brake levers should be made with solid oval section.

(5) Mr. Royce would like the brake levers to be of the same length so as to have two forgings only instead of four. He would also like them to be made still shorter if possible, and would like you to verify that the angular movement of the equalising shafts is not less than 30º.
