X/112 With reference to the increased length of frame, I think it would be better if we did not lengthen the frame, but only the wheel base. This will be an intermediate policy and the safest I can suggest. We will get the lock of the wheels as large as we can, and the turning circle as small as we can. Apparently we shall be able to get it quite as good as at present. Increasing the length of the frame would increase the deflection and stresses. Increasing the wheel base only will increase the deflection between the wheels but will decrease both the strains and the deflection of the cantilever rear end. Our wheel track is 56" centres 4 ft. 8 inches. We could make this another 1" without much harm and some good. This together with steering pivots being more central will surely permit us to add 3" to the wheel base with the same turning circle or less. Anyway I think it would be well to be able to say that the wheel base was over 12 ft. say 146" = 12 ft. 2 inches. F.H.R. | ||
