[Handwritten text crossed out] [Handwritten] 1135 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 28th. May 1938. Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. For the attention of Mr.Sutcliffe. Dear Sirs, When Mr.Sutcliffe was at the works recently he expressed his willingness to make some fan belt tests for us. If you are still agreeable to doing this we will forward to you shortly a Phantom III fan to be used for test purposes. We will also send you various American belts of similar dimensions to the Phantom III belt which we are using and think that it would be useful to obtain comparative figures of durability with these belts and with your own belt when driving this fan. As previously mentioned the pulley sizes we use are 5.500" outside diameter and the maximum speed is 4,500 R.P.M. (crank-shaft and fan since ratio is 1 : 1). Presumably you will make and rig up the necessary pulleys to suit your test apparatus. Will you please confirm that you are prepared to make these tests, on receipt of which confirmation we will send you the above mentioned fan. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
