I am not in agreement with memo Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}1/HR, 1.6.38, re holding stocks of brake shoes relined. At any other Depot other than R.R. they keep a stock of relined shoes for quick replacements. I grant that possibly their designs being simpler is an asset. I did not mean when I wrote my memo to you that we should deal with all the models we have manufactured, it is too absurd. Ph.II and III, 20/25 HP. and 25/30 HP. and Bentley are the ones which would be easy to stock. You probably misunderstood me re the servicing. I had not intended that the shoes would be returned to the Works for relining. Both the Depots in London are adept at this work and are only too pleased to have a job to fall back on when slack. The actual rivetting is not a long job. The cutting off the old shoe linings etc. take time. No more than two sets of shoes should be necessary for the models mentioned. GWH.{George W.
