Test results and a proposal to adopt an air silenced carburettor as standard for Phantom II cars.

no loss when accelerating from 10 to 30 M.P.H.; from 30 to
60 M.P.H. there is a loss of only .6 seconds.
All results are the mean of three separate tests.
The following additional tests were carried out
on 20-EX.

The exhaust cut out gave an average increase of
3.25 M.P.H. in lap speed, when open.
We propose to adopt the air silenced carburettor
as standard for all Phantom ll cars. We are basing our
statement that the air silencer is a more efficient cleaner
than the air maze on experience gained on 16-EX, at Le
Canadel last winter. This car was fitted with this silencer
in its earliest form; the silencer was cleaned out several
times during the season there and was also examined on its
return to Derby. A great quantity of dust mixed with oil
was removed from the silencer. Had an air maze been fitted
this quantity of dirt would have seriously clogged it up and
restricted the air intake flow; it would have been almost
impossible to remove it by cleaning. The latest silencer
has gauze fitted to the middle of the baffle tube which will
