Dear Sirs: For the attention of H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} West Esq. Mr. Manwaring has asked us to write to you regarding progress on the experimental Bentley instrument layout. We regret to say that we have not been able to get as far forward as we expected to, chiefly on account of the uncertainty as to whether we should be able to supply the A.T. Speedometer and Petrol Gauge fitted in close proximity. We made various experiments which took up quite a lot of time and we eventually decided that the only thing to do would be to try out the A.T. Speedometer in a cast iron case. Unfortunately this decision led to a good deal of delay but we are now in possession of a cast iron case which is being machined and we hope to make some definite tests during the course of next week. We have, however, provisionally made up a dummy layout which will, as far as we can now say, show how the instruments would look when assembled, if our experiments prove successful. We are rather concerned about another point i.e. how we are going to make each instrument detachable for Service purposes without affecting appearance of the combination. We know you appreciate that the translucent dial scheme and the combination of the instruments is a fairly stiff proposition, and we can only claim your kind indulgence for a short time. cont. TO AVOID DELAY ALL ENVELOPES SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO THE FIRM. | ||
