Nov. 8th. 1913. Re your Memo. as to what extent weight of chassis is constantly increasing, and why - this is largely because we are constantly fitting improvements to strengthen weak and defective parts on the car. Also the double rear brake has put quite a lot of weight on the car. In February this year you issued instructions that all Chief Draughtsmen should carefully consider the weight of the chassis on their section with a view of lightening same, and that further, when introducing new parts, they should go into the Shops, help to erect one of these new parts, and see if any improvement could be made in method of manufacture, and to consider weight. Up to the present this instruction has not been carried out, but I have interviewed Mr. Nadin, and he has definitely instructed the Drawing Office again that this must be strictly adhered to. This would, in my opinion, be a far more systematic way of dealing with the weight of the chassis, than for me to take up the question. I am making a monthly diary note to see that in future Drawing Office carry out your instruction in this matter, and think if this is done, it will meet all that is in your mind. However, if you still wish me to go further into this matter, I shall be most happy to carry out your instructions. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} (handwritten) Handwritten text at bottom: I want to know the extent of increases in weight over the last 2 years + reasons e.g. what parts have been added + reinforced.
