reputation superior to the other two and shoul be further developed. LINCOLN ROLLS-ROYCE REPORT ON 22 JUL 1932 The La{L. A. Archer} Salle was fitted with Synchro Mesh gearbox. While it was fairly easy to get from one gear box to the other without double de-clutching, unless the engine speed was correctly adjusted for the new speed, a violent shock occurred when the clutch was let in owing to the necessity of the engine revolutions being suddenly raised or lowered to suit the road wheel revs. This was accentuated by the 3 speed box and the low overall gear ratio. It seems of necessity a feature of all easy change devices but of course is much less marked on a 4 speed close ratio gear box. The second speed was reasonably silent but did not compare with the silent third of the "Graham Paige" and the "Mathis". Ha/Rh.{R. Hollingworth} | ||
