We wish to express our disapproval of the way coachbuilders wire up accessories on R.R. chassis. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s new car 104-MY is a classic example. In addition to a number of unprotected live terminals added to the back of the instrument board we found that:- (a) The head lamps had been wrongly connected up. (b) The small lamp installed to light up the engine relied for its earthing on a wire trapped between the ebonite base and one of the bonnet flanges. All our efforts to make the electrical system on R.R. chassis trouble free will be lost if coachbuilders are allowed to wire up accessories rather indiscriminately and we suggest that accessory wiring should be strictly supervised by responsible officials at the coachbuilders wherever possible or else the chassis wired for the desired accessories before the chassis leaves the works. We should be glad to have your views on the matter. | ||
