TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL E3/M1.9.23. c. to Cd. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 40/50 CHASSIS. FLEXIBLE MOUNTING FOR REAR END OF ENGINE. Y 4604 We send you herewith drawing No. LeC 1756 shewing the above. You will see that the rear of the engine has been mounted on a system of equalising levers such as we use for the front end. With the rear end thus mounted the levers at the front end must of course be locked solid by means of distance pieces. The present engine feet in the frame have been used and clearance has been obtained for engine oscillations by machining away the facings on the crankcase arm and engine feet. It will be necessary to drop the exhaust pipe slightly to clear the equalising lever on the near side of the engine. The anchorage endways has been brought to a central point on the nearest tubular cross member. With this anchorage it will be necessary to remove the actuator box for the self starter and run the chassis without this device. This anchorage may require some slight further alteration to make it go in, and it will also be necessary to sweep away the lower bolt of the clip on this cross member which secures the bracket holding up the front end of the gearbox. The top bolt should be retained and the bracket should be pinned and brazed to the cross tube. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
