X.4410 To 28.8.22. X.3604db{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} - R.R. GOSHAWK DISTRIBUTION BOARD & CUTOUT. X.4410. X.4421. SPECIFICATION OF INSPECTION, ADJUSTMENT & TEST. (1) The cover of the distribution box shall be removed and the following details inspected :- (a) The cutout lever for freedom of motion, i.e. without any 'sticking' action; the cutout contact surfaces for correct alignment; and the contact bow spring for suitable tension. When the platinum points are just making contact, the gap between the armature stop and the magnet pole face, should not be less than .012". If it is, the fixed contact point should be raised the required amount. (b) All the fuse holder clips for satisfactory grip of the fuse holders. (c) The fuse wires for correct sizes (all No.30 S.W.G. copper wire, except the main battery wire which should be three strands of this) and for being satisfactorily gripped in the fastenings. (2) It shall now be ascertained that the insulation of the fixed contact point to the base of the cutout is O.K. by applying an alternating voltage of 200 through a lamp between these points. (3) The distribution box shall then be connected up by low resistance wires to an R.R. Goshawk dynamo, a 12 volt battery of suitable capacity, two ammeters A and B, and a voltmeter V, according to diagram herewith. (4) The distribution box being in a cold condition, the dynamo shall be driven at gradually increasing speeds until the cutout is just operated. The instant of operation will be shown by a movement of the needle of ammeter A.{Mr Adams} The readings of the voltmeter V and ammeter B immediately preceding | ||
