Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/WJ.16.12.29. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Dy.{F R Danby} HYPOID REAR AXLE 20 HP. X2066 X5350 We are now running the 20 HP. car fitted with a Hypoid rear axle. We should like to know what tests will satisfy you before we standardise this axle. We recommend that we run an axle of this type for 100 hours on the bumping rig and that we also run it for 10 hours on the road wheel dynamometer test with max. torque. These tests will prove the axle as regards strength due to road shock and the strength due to torque and also wearing qualities. These tests will be more severe than the 10,000 miles test in France. On Phantom 11 we ran several Hypoid axles for 10,000 miles in France but it was a road wheel dynamometer test which shewed up the weakness of the design. We shall also be running these axles on the two Experimental 20 HP. cars in order to make sure that they are satisfactory under normal running conditions. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
