1379 . Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}7/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 15th February, 1939. V.E. Morgan, Esq., Reuters Ltd., 9, Carmelite Street, Thames Embankment, E.C.4. Dear Morgan, Thank you very much for your letter, together with your Motoring letter. I must say I give you full marks for producing articles that are likely to interest the man in the street. I am glad that Sleator managed to do his stuff yesterday. Of course, this may not sound very impressive against the sort of performances which are being put up every day by special cars, but it was not too bad for a six-cylinder engine which can be sold to the public. A bit later on when we put a power plant in this car that does not have to function indefinitely in the hands of an ordinary customer, I anticipate that we shall make it go quite a bit faster. Incidentally, we would rather not talk too much about the 24 hours' run, because we want to do this before our competitors can 'take the gilt off the ginger-bread'. We will do that Berlin-Munick run for you some day I hope, and I trust we shall be able to satiate even your desire for speed during the trip. I am getting some prints off my film and will send them along. I believe Sleator has already sent you copies of the film which I gave to Géo.{Mr Oldham} Lefèvre. | ||
