HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} [strikethrough]Mr. Hives.[/strikethrough] c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [strikethrough]Option.[/strikethrough] X8080 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H22.12.26. re. Petrol Leaking from Carburetters. We experience considerable trouble with petrol leaking from carburetters while chassis are standing after tests are completed, although the carburetter is normally satisfactory. The trouble does not seem to be a question of flooding but slow leakage of petrol which appears to come from the jets (possibly owing to capillary action) or leakage from the joints. We have for some time been pressing that the various fibre joints should be replaced by soft aluminium type, which BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has recently suggested, and appear to have been successfully applied on other parts of the engine. Another point we have noticed is the fact that the petrol appears to pass through the slot in the side of the throat through which the lever passes actuating the high speed jet cone. OVER.
