Sr/VAI/ET.23.9.36 - 2 - What we especially wish to avoid is to build up the engine and then find that we are in difficulties due to overoiling, and then finally have to dismantle the cylinders once more, re-bore and fit oversize pistons. This is naturally to be avoided for two reasons: A.{Mr Adams} Extra cost in labour that would be involved. B. Delay in delivering the car to the owner, who wants it by the middle of next week. For your information, we have no "L" shaped rings in stock, suitable for 3 1/2 litre Bentley engines. What we should like to do would be to re-bore the cylinders and fit o/s Aerolite pistons, plus fitting an "L" shaped ring to each new piston. Please let us have your opinion and make this quite clear. (For your information and guidance, we are having trouble with chassis B.8.GA, Trials Car. As you know, we recently fitted the latest type Hall's metal main bearings and connecting rods with Hall's metal bearings. The car has covered about 1500 Kms. since carrying out the above work and the engine is now badly overoiling; the cylinder bores have only a slight amount of wear. We are now going to fit an "L" shaped ring to each piston in order to overcome the trouble. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} recommended that we should try the "L" shaped rings on our Trials cars. Will Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} kindly note that we will send him a report concerning B.8.GA). In order to prevent any confusion concerning connecting rods needed immediately, will you kindly get into touch with D/BP. and refer him to our Orders Nos.765 and 1046. Two complete sets of drilled up type of connecting rods, complete with Hall's metal bearings for chassis B.38.EF and B.59.DK are needed. We are writing you separately concerning this latter chassis. Finally, concerning cylinder bore wear, we have referred to your Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SBIO/HR.6.7.36, a copy of which we possess. Mr. Bernot has not complained to us of high oil consumption. We think, however, that he is one of those customers who do not mind paying for a little more oil. Sr/VA. VA | ||
