TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} " DJ. " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL. EAC.7. IGNITION WIRE FITTINGS. X.7560 In reply to your memo. BY15/H151226., requesting our comments on Sch./819. which was attached, we should have liked the ignition wires tucked away neatly against the cylinder block, but we do not know if it is possible to pass them behind the induction pipe uptake jacket, seeing that this latter at the moment is exhaust heated and may damage the wiring if there is insufficient space between. We believe Mr. Royce has in mind to adopt an induction pipe uptake with a slot entry into the manifold, and a water heated jacket. This modification would undoubtedly enable us to carry out the wiring in the manner suggested. EAC.7. Before this type of induction manifold is standardised we shall probably require to slope the individual connections to each cylinder port transversely, so that all petrol accumulations are drained into the engine, even if the car is tilted over slightly sideways.
