With reference to the above, we have completed a 500-hour run at 3,000 r.p.m. on the test rig which was demonstrated to you during a recent visit, it being remembered that we were unable to put on the maximum loading owing to the deflection of the test spindle. The actual loading during this test was 3,820 lbs. thrust and 965 lbs. journal, rust-veto being the lubricant, and the bearing is in every way in perfect condition, with the exception that one of the cages has fractured across one ball hole. There are no very clear indications as to why this fracture should have occurred, and we have not unduly disturbed the job, as we feel that you would desire to see the bearing in its existing state, before any further investigation takes place. No appreciable cage drag has occurred, and we certainly feel that there has not been sufficient to cause this fracture, which therefore appears to indicate | ||
