To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe} 1379 Levallois. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}3/JAB.5.3.39 DAILY REPORT. Paulin Bentley II.- B-27-LE. Car run on ramp for inspection and various modifications submitted for trial in an effort to reduce engine oil temperature. Cylinder head removed and gasket inspected for detonation trouble. The gasket, standard C & A was found to be the cause, and showed signs of shrivelling on the bore rings. This is believed to be due to low and medium speed detonation on the German fuel with resultant high temperatures. The engine was very good at the start in not detonating. The original engine during two days on the Montlhéry track using Azur was also very good and the gasket was still in a good condition round the bores. All three gaskets have now been returned to Derby for inspection by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swd. Two nickle 3 ply corrujoint gaskets of .030" have been received from Works for replacement. ----------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe} [Signature] | ||
