GRY{Shadwell Grylls} Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Limited, D E R B Y . For the attention of -. Grylls Esq: Dear Sirs, CLUTCH THROWOUT BEARINGS With reference to Mr. Hickling's recent discussion regarding theabove, we have great pleasure in forwarding under separate cover, addressed for your attention, three bearings, our XLJ.1.3/4 which are standard in every respect but for the material of the separating cage, which is 'Oillite.' We have previously mentioned that this material is not nearly as strong as either our usual cage material or Bakelite, but has of course, the self oiling properties which will we understand be of advantage in this particular application. We have further, increased the proportions of the cage as much as possible, so as to avoid undue weakness, and we have every reason to believe that the cage will be sufficiently strong, but of course, we cannot guarantee this. We shall await with great interest the results of your experiments and tests on this bearing, and would point out that if these indicate the desirability of changing over to this as a standard, we should like you Telegraphic Address: "BEARINGS, NEWARK" Telegraphic Code: BENTLEY'S Telephone Nos: NEWARK 456-457-458.
