c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X 4009. D/BP/YL2/JR.{Mr James Royce} 19th February, 1940. The General Transport Co.Ltd., 6/8, Crutched Friars, London E.C.3. Dear Sirs, Re: Chassis No. 14.BV. On reference to your letter of the 31st May, 1939, reference AWC/CWH, you will remember having imported a Motor Car body made by Van Vooren of France, and on which import duty was paid at Newhaven, amounting to £153.4.11d. The body was fitted to the above chassis, and eventually sent abroad under R.A.C. Carnet 289619. The car met with an accident in France, and the chassis only was brought back to this Country in August, 1939, the body being left at Chateauroux, France, for repairs. Due to some misunderstanding, the R.A.C. Carnet was completed as though the whole car had been returned. The matter has been fully explained to the R.A.C. and we now desire the repaired body to come forward. We are having this shipped via Newhaven, and the object of this letter is to ask for your assistance in obtaining the re-importation of this body into England by paying duty on the cost of repairs only. If necessary, we are prepared to send our Representative (who brought the chassis over) to Newhaven again, to give whatever assistance is necessary, and to confirm the particulars given in this letter.
