COPY LHS{Lord Herbert Scott}17/JW20.5.19. S/W. RE HEAT IN FRONT PART OF CARS I have seen your memo BY/JH23/P15.5.19., addressed to Mr. Oldham, headed "Ventilators". This matter was carefully discussed at the Coachbuilders' Conference held in these offices on 12th inst., and the general opinion formed by the Committee was that where as in the past we have tried to overcome these difficulties by "Spinney" Ventilators, etc., the root of the trouble is really to be found in the construction of the undershield and that the attempt to overcome this difficulty by ventilators in the dash etc. is beginning at the wrong end. The committee hope that Works will go more thoroughly into this important matter which has been overcome to a great extent by our competitors here and in the U.S.A. I am personally not satisfied that the matter has been sufficiently gone into by the Works and I consider it so important that Mr. Royce should be invited to give his opinion as to whether anything can be done with regard to the undershield or other alteration to Chassis before we go further with the matter of a more elaborate system of ventilators to prevent the hot air coming up into the body.
