To: Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/CH. S. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} CHILDS 6142 BY/RD.1/B.15.11.37. DYNAMO ARMATURE FUSES. We attach hereto a chart showing the type of fault and the effects with and without the fuse. Since the Repair Department's experience is that the armature fuse rarely blows, this would indicate that the faults we anticipate may happen, do not happen, and we can therefore dispense with the fuse. The fact remains however, that the fuse is a safety device, the deletion of which, must bring with it, risks stated, if the faults occur. With regard to the first type of fault, the failure of second stage of regulator; we know that there is a fire risk when this happens, and have produced an anti-fire scheme, which when standardised, will make the need of the armature fuse, considerably less. We estimate the saving to be in the nature of a few pence, since only the fuse and its clips are not required. BY/RD. | ||
