Referring to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG30/6/27 I have discussed the matter of deleting rear bonnet shutters on the 40/50 HP with H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} and CWB. In view of your remarks concerning the alteration of the fan position gaining in efficiency, we agree there is no necessity for a further test in the Alps and that there should be no risk in deleting the rear shutters.

If, when we have deleted the rear shutters, we obtain any complaints, we can obtain further prolonged experience in the Alps and hot countries to see whether we can entirely delete all bonnet shutters, but it seems undesirable to run any risk until we find what is the effect of deleting one pair first.

Please also let me know what you consider we can do to obtain a cheaper form of shutter and whether you consider this is feasible. I will then put the whole matter before R.{Sir Henry Royce} for his final consideration.

BJ.
