To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} +4508 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}2/KW.6.7.34. Bentley Thermostat. We have carried out some tests on the thermostat fitted to B-23-AE. It was found that the guides had insufficient clearance, causing the bellows to stick and making the operation generally tacky. We have increased the clearance at the bottom guide by .050". The clearance has also been increased round the spindle to .012" and the length of guide reduced to .125". The two .1875" holes in the valve have been deleted and replaced by one hole .093" dia. Two thermostats have been tried with these modifications carried out and in both cases the running temp. was 84°C. We shall require a new supply of thermostats to open at 75°C. The main trouble with this type of thermostat has been the sticking in the guides. The lower guide is not necessary at all, and the spindle guide should be a slack fit to the clearance given above. Attached is a print showing the clearances given. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.Dodd. | ||
