Phantom III Body Weights.

With regard to the vexed question of weight of coachwork, we have a very good comparison between the two Phantoms 34-EX and 36-EX, making every possible correction for chassis weights, spare wheels, accessories, tools etc. including heater which is fitted to 36-EX.

The coachwork weight as mounted on 34-EX is 13 cwts 2 qrs 25 lbs compared with 36-EX which is 14 cwts 2 qrs 8 lbs. This must necessarily be a very accurate comparison as both bodies have been built to the same specification, the only difference of course being that 34-EX is a Park Ward and 36-EX a Hooper.

I am mentioning this matter as I still feel that we shall have to do everything possible with the coachbuilder to make him keep down weight.

With regard to chassis weights, we now have a fairly accurate idea of how Phantom III compares with Phantom II. Our last records for Phantom II show that the complete chassis including petrol, oil, water, two spare wheels and carriers and jacks as fitted weighs 38 cwts 1 qr. The corresponding weight for each of the Phantom III chassis 32-EX, 34-EX and 36-EX is 37 cwts 0 qrs 21 lbs. It is, therefore, clear that as we are at the present time Phantom III chassis is just over 1 cwt lighter than Phantom II.
