File 1015 To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}14/JMc.14.5.40. Re 1% Chromium Steel. Re your memo HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}2/VS.{J. Vickers}10.5.40., the reason for using 1% Chromium Steel is economy. Since the B.V. suspension was first designed, the yoke piece has had to be stiffened to reduce deflections. It has, therefore, ceased to be highly stressed and the mechanical properties of 1% Chromium Steel are ample for the application. We have, of course, completed all the usual endurance tests on yokes of this material. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} | ||
