re Hurlimann. Water Boiling.

With reference to your memo CJ5/E9.9.21, re Liechti and correspondence re Mr. Hurlimann's car, which we return herewith we have now received a telegram from our Swiss Agent, Mr. Schmidt, to the effect that "the fan with small pulley has given satisfactory results".

We have also heard from Paris Depot that they have received a report from their mechanic, who has tried Mr. Liechti's car both with the standard fan pulley and with the small pulley, and he reports "On the same hill with the standard pulley the temperature of the water reach 96°C, and with the special pulley the water reached 90°C".

Paris are of the opinion that the water boiling trouble has been overcome on Mr. Liechti's car, No.115-EE.

This matter was also brought up at the Works Conference on Wednesday, Sept. 14th. and as per minute No.2 of this meeting, it was arranged that we should fit small pulleys until Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has arrived at some decision after experiment, with regard to loss of water on hills, and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is carrying out experiments in accordance with R's instructions.

In view of the above, therefore, we recommend that a small pulley be supplied to Mr. Hurlimann. Shall we send to Mr. Hurlimann or to Mr. Guinness?

We understand that the correspondence in regard to Mr. Hurlimann's car was passed on to you by Mr. Guinness, and you will no doubt wish to reply to him.

Please return the attached papers with your reply.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}
